Tonight at 7:30pm, our poor baby was stung twice by a swarm of red wasps that are living in one of our bushes in the back yard. Will went over to pick up the frisbee that landed by the bush and BOOM, it happened. His cry was screeching and it made me run as fast as I could. He was only 20 yards from me. I knew what had happened when I saw something fly away from him. I didn't know what it was but after it was all said and done and Rick was able to go discover what was in the bush, we knew it was red wasps. It was a very scary moment, since bee stings run on both sides of our family as a severe allergy. We rushed him inside to inspect what actually happened. I tore off his clothes and found the one sting on the back of his right shoulder. I thought that was it. He only has shorts on at that point. After he stopped crying and was playing with his fire truck, he started crying again and was reaching for his leg. I took off his shorts and there was another sting on his right upper thigh. We felt so bad for the little guy. Rick sucked out the stingers, we cleaned the wounds with soap and water, I applied baking soda paste and then gave a dose of benedryl. Rick ran to the store as fast as he could to buy an epi pen, just in case. We found out that you can't get an epi pen unless you have a prescription. That's crazy.
Little guy is doing really good. The bites look alot better but he's a little uncomfortable. I called the pediatrician office just to check what I could and could not do and they said I did all the right things. If Will had no symptoms for 2 hours (hives, wheezing, shortness of breath etc), then we are out of the woods. We kept him up a little later tonight just to make sure he was okay. Thank God!
