UPDATE to backyard camping adventure!

We went inside the house at 1am....

Let me tell you the story. Here's what happened.

While doing our bon fire, it started to sprinkle. The weather forecast for Saturday evening was 30% chance of rain. We knew there was a HUGE cold front coming and was to hit today, on Sunday. So I checked the radar via my iPhone5 and saw a green cell, not too bad. It did start to rain harder so we went inside. It was 8:30pm, bedtime for Will. Rick and I decided to suck it up and still camp, a little rain wasn't going to hurt us! And we have been SO EXCITED to camp. We had to cancel last weekend due to rain all day on Saturday. We're makin this happen!

Tent camping in the backyard. WILL LOVED LOVED LOVED it.

So after a little IPAD inside the tent, we said it was time to go to bed. It's now 9:30pm, way past bedtime for Mr. Willy T! He was asleep in about 2 minutes. :)

Then, the rain starts. It progressively gets harder, bigger drops on the roof tent. Then the thunder starts, then lightening. I pull out my phone to check radar. It's a big RED cell coming straight at us. I show it to Rick. He shrugs it off saying we're staying. So I lay there and listen to the rain and wait for the big storm. I start texting people. Julie and I were going back and forth for a long while. It's raining harder. I start feeling drips of water on my head, then my leg. I'm like WHAT? So then, I take my flashlight app to look at the ceiling of the tent. There's water drips all over it. Drips that appear INSIDE the tent. Again, WHAT?! I lay back down. Its really pouring outside. The top of my pillow that was against the tent wall is wet. Nice.

Okay we made it through that red cell. Will is sawing logs. It didn't even phase him. He slept right through all that thunder and lightening. It's nice and quiet. Ah. I drift off to sleep.

12:45am. Will is starting to thrash his body all around the tent. He can't breathe through his nose because it's totally plugged up. He's a nose breather when he sleeps. I forgot to tell you that he started to get a cold yesterday morning. It's going around school. While he's freaking out and flailing everywhere, he lands BOOM, right into a huge puddle inside our tent that was against the tent wall. Now he's soaked.

Okay, time to go in! So we went inside and Will was NOT a happy camper, no pun intended :). He wanted to sleep in the tent SO BAD. "I WANT TO SLEEP IN THE TENT!!" is what we heard over and over and over. We would explain that the tent is all wet and we have to sleep inside. He would listen for a second and then he would say, "I WANT TO SLEEP IN THE TENT!!" We calmed him down and got him to bed. Then we went to bed. Ah. My bed.

At 7am, another HUGE monster thunderstorm. I wake up. I'm thinking, I am SO GLAD we went inside.

We see the headlines in the newspaper when we wake up: "Powerful thunderstorms rip through area". I turn on the TV. The news weather person says, "A combination of a cold front and a stalled low pressure make for powerful storms that we weren't expecting overnight." No, we weren't expecting those storms! We have 1100 power outages in our area.

When Will woke up this morning, we were talking about the storm last night and him falling into that puddle inside the tent. I asked him if he heard the rain or thunder and he said no but he did say, "I saw fireworks in the sky though!" LOL

So until next time. We wait for better weather. It was fun while it lasted.

Now it's cold outside. We went from 85 yesterday to 59 today!
