Here is the tip:
"Wow with color. Place a few drops of blue food coloring in the toilet bowl or potty chair. Show your child how adding yellow coloringthe same color as his urinechanges the blue into green. Once your child witnesses the magic change in color, he may be eager to make the color change all by himself."
I just ordered a few sets of undies in fun themes like Cars-- Lightening McQueen and Thomas the Train. I think those are going to help. I also bought two new potty books. We are going to start the sticker reward system but for now, the gummy bears are working! Two gummy bears for pee-pee and five gummy bears for poo-poo. So far, no poop. We had about six in January/February combined but he had a couple bad experiences with pain so he associates that with the toilet. The signs of poop coming on are "Mommy, my stomach hurts."
However, experts advise not to reward sweet treats (I'm breaking the rules, oh well)...
"While offering edible treats like candy, ice cream, chips can be effective in the short term, many experts warn against using food as a reward. You don't want your child to begin to look at certain foods (e.g., sweets) as something he receives when he pleases you or does something "good." Kids this age are already asserting control over what goes into their body as well as what leaves it. Its best to tackle food issues separately, rather than bringing them into the potty training arena."
Will is 2 years and 8 1/2 months old. I know boys develop later but he has to be trained by 3 years old in order to move up to the new 3 year old room at Primrose School. I have until September 4th.
Let the potty fairies be with us....
