William turns ONE!

Holy cow! I cannot believe my baby just turned one year old. As sooo many people told me, the time flies. And it sure did! I can barely remember him being an infant, new home from the hospital. Wow. Everyday brings something new from Will. He's totally a character already and is already starting to show that temper he must have gotten from Mommy. According to Grandma Con Bon (my Mom), I pitched temper tantrums quite frequently. Will is showing his independence and letting me know when I don't let him have his way --like climb the stairs whenever he feels like it. Gates are our new best friend!

The birthday party was a smashing success. I put alot of time in coordinating a SUPER FAB first birthday. You know what they say, the 1st birthday is a party for the parents! We had the party on his actual birthday, September 4th from 5pm-7pm. It was a monkey theme. He was born at 7:48am. My sister Julie and I sang to him that morning at the minute he was born while he was eating breakfast. He thought that was fun. Here is Will at that moment:

My family flew in from MN and MI --my two sisters, Julie & Jenna, my stepMom, Debbie and Dad, Dick.  Lucky for us, the weather couldn't have been better. The temp dropped from our normal 95-98 degrees (every day this summer --unbearable), to a less humid and comfortable 85, beautiful degrees. I rented a big tent with tables and chairs to help block some of that afternoon sun. We only had to deal with the sun for an hour before it was behind the trees. Most of the party was outside so I was glad when we got a break in those temperatures. We had beer, wine, sweet tea, pink lemonade, juice boxes and water on special. They were FREE only on Sat. Sept 4th. haha. We served Mac's BBQ (pulled pork with various sauces, mac-n-cheese, green bean casserole, hush puppies), vegetarian calico beans, fruit tray, veggie tray and chicken nuggets. Then we had the Monkey cake, monkey cupcakes (which we made on Friday, the day before the party), #1 sugar cookies with icing, peanuts, bananas.

The big hit was Curious George (full costume mascot). He came from 6:15pm to 7:00pm to play with the kids and run around the yard. Let me tell you, they had a frickin blast! That was a last minute decision to hire Curious George and I'm so glad that I did. Will really enjoyed it too. He kept doing the "monkey face" by puckering his lips and saying, "oooh oooh oooh." I got some great pictures.

I made everybody wear a monkey mask for one group photo:

Then it was birthday cake time. Julie and Debbie helped me make the cake and cupcakes. People at the party thought they were professionally done. :-) That made us feel GREAT!

Will did not make a mess at all. He ate his cake so sweet, nice and dainty like. He pinched off little bites of his personal cupcake and ate them. He barely got frosting on his face. So cute!! Then before ya know it, the party was over. It was a fast 3 hours! I wanted to do it all over again.

This is Will AFTER he ate his cake. Not too messy huh?
